Inclusion Team

At Shirley Warren Primary and Nursery School, our Inclusion Team plays a vital role in supporting both children and their families throughout their school journey. We strongly believe that emotional and social development is just as important as academic progress and that all children deserve the right support to thrive.

Our Assistant Headteacher, Mr Goodchild, leads on inclusion in the school. He provides guidance and support for pupils with Special Educational Needs, as well as those who may need additional help with emotional, social or behavioural challenges.

Our work is underpinned by the Thrive Approach, which helps us to understand and support children’s emotional development and wellbeing. Through Thrive, we focus on building secure relationships, promoting resilience and supporting children to develop the skills they need to manage their emotions and behaviour effectively. This approach enables us to respond to every child’s individual needs in a consistent, nurturing way. Our Thrive Practioner, Mrs Head, offers carefully planned support that enables children to build confidence and achieve success across all areas of school life and beyond.

Children identified as benefiting from extra support may work with our ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), Miss Sails. During these sessions, pupils explore their thoughts and feelings while learning practical strategies to help them succeed. A key focus of this work is supporting positive relationships, both in and beyond the classroom, and helping children develop effective ways to manage their emotions and behaviour.

The Inclusion Team is always available to support families by offering advice, organising child-centred meetings and liaising with external agencies where needed. If you require any assistance, please feel free to contact a member of the team.
