Chair of Governors

Nicole Jones - Co opted Governor

My name is Nicole Jones and I  joined the governing board in April 2020

I am a Senior Area Manager for the co-operative childcare, and I support 45 nurseries around the country. I have 22 years of experience in the Early Years and I feel my knowledge in this area can help me in the role of school Governor.

I hope to support the school in making sure all children can reach their full potential through high quality teaching and learning. I will also be supporting as a SEND link Governor Making sure I challenge appropriately around the school’s provision and strategies to support all pupils.

 Vice-Chair of Governor

Governors

Zoe Newton - Headteacher

I am the Headteacher of Shirley Warren Primary and Nursery School. I work closely with the governors to look at the strategic vision and aims for the school and review this together with the School Improvement Plan (SDP) and the School Evaluation Form (SEF).  I have been a governor in my previous two schools and value the importance this role brings to the school.

Sophia Ship - Foundation Governor

I am currently Deputy Head at Shirley Warren Primary School and Nursery. I have five years experience as a staff governor. When asked why I wanted to become a co-opted governor for our school, the primary reason that came to mind was that I believe in our school and want to contribute to make a difference. I would like to support our school in achieving our aims and objectives beyond the support of being a member of staff. I aim to have a positive impact on our pupils, staff and school and I can share my knowledge of the curriculum, assessment and teaching and learning. I have the chance to bring my knowledge as a Class Teacher and Senior Leader, as well as previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant to the process of governance, to support the Governing Body in shaping our strategic policy and vision.

Catrin Watkins  - Parent Governor

My name is Catrin.  I am a Parent Governor.  I am grateful to have this opportunity to be able to be involved in the educational journey of all the children who attend the school.  As well as being a mum, I am a research nurse, where I use attention to detail to ensure that patients are cared for using best practice while high quality work is produced.  I hope to be able to use some of these skills in this Governor role, as the school seeks to continuously improve and provide a nurturing learning environment.

Sally Spicer -

With my recent knowledge in local government as a city councillor and a back ground of 18 years in early years, I really wanted to put my knowledge to good use in the role of a governor. My son also attended the school until recently, so it is great to be involved in the improvement and progression of the school. I also really enjoy working in the community to make a difference

 Shannon Smith - Staff Governor

Sam Laxton - Co opted Governor

Aby Adekoya - Co opted Governor

My name is Aby and I have been a Co-opted Governor since the 14th March 2023. I am thrilled to serve in this capacity with children as my contribution to my local community. I am also a volunteer with The Advocacy People and work as a medical doctor at the general hospital close by. My background helps me to be an advocate for children and vulnerable people while paying attention to detail and the safety of those that I have the opportunity to work with. This also means that I work well in multidisciplinary teams to encourage positive change using the latest evidence, which resonates with the duties and goals of the Governing body here at Shirley Warren Primary and Nursery school. In this role, I also learn more about my local environment and how the school is making a significant impact in the lives of the children. They are the future of our world!
